MicroSD and external USB drive support is absolutely crucial for this tablet. When attempting to view VR footage 99GB of free space at best is quite frankly not enough for VR content creators like myself. My 1TB MicroSD card and external USB C drives are essentially useless as well since the player cannot convert to 3D. Seems like a fairly simple thing to ask for from a device like this. The moving a few files back and forth at a time is quite frankly one of the most frustrating parts of using this system. Please get this right at the minimum for starters. I am still waiting for a replacement tablet since the one I received has a bad Gyro so I have not even been able to utilize it for what I needed it in the first place.
Hey @martinisangry,
MicroSD and External USB drive support was added with the last firmware update as mentioned in multiple places. You can open 3D photos and videos from a MicroSD card or USB drive in the File Manager app we added, and then choose to open it in LeiaPlayer.
The browsing functionality will be added inside LeiaPlayer in the next update, but the only difference is that you browse files in the File Manager app instead of browsing the files in the LeiaPlayer app, and 2D to 3D conversion doesn’t work when using external storage yet. Besides that there’s no difference, and has been working for over a month since the last update.
Yes, I’m referring to the 2D to 3D conversion aspect of it, I cant even view VR footage in 3D from an external storage either.
I add here a personal experience (that it is likely trivial, but I have found very useful for me) to see pictures and videos from the external SD, without using the provided file manager (for which I had to select every time to “open by” and choose Leiaplayer, hence a multi-step process); I have used Total Commander, that let you select specific apps to open files, overriding the standard association, so that I have associated JPG and MPO to Leiaplayer. This way any picture a click in Total Commander will open in Leiaplayer, that also allows to convert 2D to 3D pictures.
It’s been over a year, and I have yet to see “full” micro SD card file format support. Is that update ever really coming?
Why is the garbage can icon for deleting files greyed out in Leia Player? Shouldn’t file deletion be possible in a “full” support capability of micro SD card file format?
Hey Rhonda, what’s currently available is what we consider our final version of MicroSD card support.
Some file formats will have different limitations. If you use a partially supported formatted like ExFAT, some features like writing files or deleting files won’t be possible within LeiaPlayer. However you can simply use the built-in File Browser app to do those actions with the ExFAT file format.
I thought you couldn’t use sbs videos off micro SD card, after updating the apps I copied 35 sbs 3d movies as well as my own owl 3d conversions to micros SD and its incredible I love this thing. I mainly use it as. 2d tablet but when I’m in the mood for a 3d flick and documentary I have it as an option. I really want an update to the local 2d to 3d conversion, it doesn’t seem as good as the online conversion. Please let us know if you plan on doing any future upgrades not like it isn’t already amazing…thanks for all your hard genius
This is one of the best features offered by the tablet. Really is awesome to be able to store large amounts of media and easily view it.
hey josh, I subbed to your channel…great work…typically once you get 1000 subs or more the channel will rapidly grow to 100k…kinda like a tea kettle effect. did you notice the weak 3d effect when viewing 2d content off sd card and then toggling 3d on…maybe im doing something wrong but I always wind up converting 2d videos to 3d using a ai app…kinda disappointing.
Leia INC. please add AI 2d to 3d conversion of offline content
Hey josh. I have a old sbs video. When I play it on VLC on my computer it shows sbs and audio. When I play it on my lp there is no audio. I’m thinking I’ll have to convert audio somehow.ideas?
