LeiaPlayer 4.3 is now available

There isn’t a specific resolution maximum, as it depends a lot on bitrate, and higher bitrate can perform worse or not run at all. But the GPU on the phone is spec’d to be able to handle up to 8K x 8K at 30fps. I’ve run 5.7K 3D 60fps 360 video on it without issue, but I’ve never tried 8K x 8K.

So a 5.7k 3D 360 video should run?
Do they have to be side-by-side or does top-down work?

Top-Bottom is required for 3D 360.

For VR180, we only support the official Google VR180 standard which is Side-By-Side.

I converted a 2D mkv file to 3D using the LeiaPlayer 3D button. Is the converted 3D file embedded in the original mkv file or it is somewhere else? Also, is there a way to take that converted 3D file and convert it to a SBS file? I saw in this forum that you can use ffmpeg but not sure if it is applied to this function? Thanks.

The 3D file is not encoded anywhere. It just renders in 3D in real-time but doesn’t save a 3D file anywhere.

Ok. Thanks for the clarification. That would be an awesome feature to have.

Due to various reasons, it wouldn’t really be possible with this hardware. Basically, encoding video takes a lot of performance, and by spending cycles encoding the file as we convert it, it would slow down the SOC to the point where we couldn’t convert it in real-time, and when the AI isn’t running in real-time, the quality drops significantly because it can’t accurately see the frames before and after it.

That was a high level explanation, but I hope you can understand the complexity. We may have enough overhead on future products to do it, however, but it’s not really possible with Lume Pad 2 without the quality tanking significantly.

Instead, LeiaPix is rolling out cloud video conversion, which is much higher quality than what’s available on Lume Pad 2, and users can pay to have their videos converted and view them anywhere.

Using LeiaPlayer 4.3.41785 when I try to share a 3D image the Share Media As option only shows the LIF image format. The documentation says there should be a SBS option.

If the image is a 2D to 3D conversion, only LIF export is available. The file format has to have 2 native stereo views to be able to export as SBS, for example, images from LeiaCam, SBS images, MPO images, or JPS images.

If you want to turn a 1-view LIF into an SBS, use LeiaPix.com.
