RedMagic Pad 3D(nubia Pad 3D II / Lume Pad 3)Review/Thoughts

By way of update, my red magic 3d pad arrived a week ago, well ahead of the estimated shipping date. The first few interactions were scary as it was a shell of a device which had a myriad of apps in chinese text, no google play store and a lot of head scratching. Once i finally managed to tinker with language settings , enabled google play services and downloaded the store, i was in business. Though through my naivety i fumbled around looking for sd card storage housing which it turns out doesnt exist …

A few observations, the built in video player has a 2d 3d toggle and converting to 3d through the player seems more frugal on battery than using the global conversion tool that is activated via the notification settings.
Agreed that converting content feom the youtube app is unusable but it works a charm from a web browser other than the strain on the cpu and battery. The battery life on the leia 2 is probably worse when comsuming content i 3d.

One advantage of the red magic vs the leia pad ii is accessing movies from my NAS is more straightforward from the red magic. The built in video player streams 1080p from the nas and 2160 seems to need a different player . Ofcourse i can download from the NAS and the red magic is faster, downloading at 55 MBs versus around 35 from the leia 2 though i need to check this

Im glad the red magic i picked up is the 512gb version rather than 256gb. I have now ordered a keyboard accessory for the tablet and a case and im planning to use it more widely for more than content consumption. Ofcourse it cant compete with my s9 ultra or s7+ which have samsung dex, s pen functionality , superior mutitasking and screen quality. However on the other hand the 3d capabilities of the leia and red magic are game changing. Im currently converting all my blu ray content digitally and will upscale it to 4k and enjoy more detailed 3d content. Overall couldnt be happier , yes the lack of ability for either device to track my eye movements in the dark is a pain and im having to project light onto my eyes to watch stuff in bed with the lights off but its only a minor inconvenience.

Once my pc arrives with a replacement 7900 xtx graphics card, i’ll be looking to stream content from it to the tab and convert to 3d on the fly eg games etc

I think in good lighting where each pad can track my eyes, the 3d rendering is fantastic . Will add more insights as they manifest

Yeah, my thoughts as well. It’s not perfect, but it’s still amazing.

Interesting! Does it stream movies in mkv, h264/x264/h265… video codecs? And in AC3, eAC3, TrueHD… audio codecs? By 1080p, do you mean 3D half-side-by-side? Thanks.

maybe i jumped the gun there a little, for the most part it seems like the internal app with the 3D toggle wont pick up the stream but most files have been MKV files (not sure about the codecs btw as i was initially using MKVmaker but have switched to a different app which allows me to control the video and audio codecs ). Generally from the NAS I am streaming into an android app called Ark player (which i have to use sometimes to pick the relevant audio language stream as the audio from some files will default to a different language or directors commentary and i cant change that in the stock app).

Sometimes the back of the tab does heat up a lot as its working really hard on rendering the video into 3D so i then give it a bit of a break.

As as aside I received the redmagic case and magnetic keyboard for this device and so will test out its regular functionailty a bit more from my Samsung S7+ and S9 Ultra tabs which are brilliant for that (Samsung Dex is fantastic) but they’ve been shelved since i got this device.

Finally i havent been able to stream content on the tab from my PC Or other devices at all yet. I have to look into this more.

Sorry I should have been more precisely too. I meant did you stream 3D SBS files from your NAS in those codecs onto the tablet (I don‘t mean 2D files which are converted into 3D on the fly)? Or just if you were able to watch 3D content stored on your NAS in mkv container formats.

No problem, I just tried it aa few times, the built in 3d player cant stream any content at all from the NAS as far as I can see (I get an error message that the player cant be found - or at least when I try and open it using CTX file explorer). So a 3d SBS file will have to be stored locally first before it can be played. Now it may be possible to find an app that can convert a 3d Sbs into a 3d visual format. I’ll look into that

Hi, im ready to buy a 3D tablet.
Wich one do you recomment.
The screen is better on red Magic but should i go with the lume pad because of the software and better camera?

The Red Magic is lot better, but also 3x the price (in the US). Lume Pad 2 is still good, and has more features (games, photo sharing).

If you could buy only one , wich one would you shoose ?(costs aside)

Well, the Red Magic is the best 3D tablet on the market, and has OS-level 2D-to-3D. It also has a way better screen (brighter, apparent higher resolution). I just meant that it’s a lot more expensive, and could be hard to import. But if you have the money, yeah it’s worth it.

. I heard it is missing a depth slider , is this a problem?
And i really like to make good photos
Yeah importing a red magic would be around €1200.
Thanks for helping out btw.

So the actual 3D photos are much better (the camera lenses are spaced further apart). The auto 2D-to-3D is somewhat conservative, so not as amazing depth as the ones on Lume Pad 2, and cannot be adjusted, BUT it works on the OS level, so websites or games, etc. can be supported.

i hope the extra €700 are worth it .
Thank you so much for you time

…and it may have to be converted to whatever codec format the player can read, I guess. That’s exactly why I gave up on all those devices :-1:

I’m almost finished with my app, but only photos are supported at the moment. I do want to look into video, but I bet it’s rather complex. Might check what it would take to fork something open source (VLC is GPL, but surely there are enough libraries to not have to start from scratch). But I might also just stick with photos for now and see how the Samsung monitor does in March. Not really seeing a lot of action.

The System has been updated today. It seems that there are improvements. Less or no studder in youtube 3D with Chrome. Less vibrations or flicker in 3D display. More depth in 2D to 3D conversion. Youtube App still not working well in 3D. No new language. No big change. Till now I have not seen any adverse effect.

Well, maybe I was too optimistic, the difference is minimal, still quite sensitive to the light intensity on your face regarding the flickering. I see a time lapse option in the photo app, was it there before?.
System app has an option to download an Experience version of a new OS, that might not be android, I do not know, in any case this OS is not available.
I think that you can safely ionstall and explore this version.

Hello everyone, I have received my 512GB 3d explorer .. It is an amazing tablet but unfortunately with lack of main Leia app store !!

is there anyway to get the Leia app store installed in my device ? Please guide me with much gratitude ..

You can get Google Play for normal apps. It doesn’t appear the Leia store or social media apps are compatible.

Thanks a lot .. I had installed the google play earlier and cleaned many of Chinese apps to make it seems to global version .. My actual need of Leia app store is the moonlight3d which is only available through the Leia app store ..

Perhaps the is a way to dump officially the Leia app store and make it working with the New 3d Pad ..
