RedMagic Pad 3D(nubia Pad 3D II / Lume Pad 3)Review/Thoughts

So I found a web browser, but there is some error in Chinese with no way to click okay or anything. Strange. However I tested some 2D-to-3D photos and videos. The 3D conversion is very good. The depth is low, maybe only 1 inch or 2 max, but it looks like native 3D. No artifacts, no ghosting, none of those stretched pixels, etc. It also doesn’t buffer. I loaded a 1080P movie, clicked the 3D button, and within 1 second it was 3D. I could also scrub through the timeline and it was instantaneous to jump time and it stayed in 3D with no buffering. So that’s great. The bad part is you cannot adjust the 3D depth at all. It looks decent, but shallow, no adjustments.

For 2D photos, the process is much better than Lume Pad. You can load photos via USB cable like normal. But when you go into the viewer app, just one button turns it 3D. It only takes like 1 second, and gives you the option to overwrite the file right then. I was able to go through a folder with over 100 images, and convert them all to 3D in maybe 10 minutes. The 3D conversion on photos is also somewhat shallow, but looks better than the video. In this case it’s still around 2 inches or so. But no artifacts, no glitches or anything. It looks very close to a normal photo. It does not look like a real stereo photo, since the depth is extremely low, but it looks like a 2D photo with layers sort of thing. I’d prefer this to lots of depth, but distracting glitches. You can also turn it into a photo frame with up to 30 images in 3D that will cycle. The tablet works in both landscape and portrait (in 3D), so this is very good for portrait photos.

Also, the tablet screen is BRIGHT. Even in 3D, it’s significantly brighter than any 2D Android tablet I’ve ever seen. It’s super bright. This may be the best thing about it, cause it looks like you are looking at a good OLED screen or something, it is not dark at all, looks full resolution. There is no indication that it’s even 3D, aside from being 3D. Head tracking is decent, though not perfect, and I still see some flicker or ghosting on the edges at times, but it’s minimal and only in darker scenes. Overall performance seems fast.

I’ll have to see if there is some way to change the rest of the apps into English, (or I will need google translate) cause I can’t seem to get anything else working cause I can’t read it. There is the player app (which supports photos and videos) and a model viewer that can load 3D models from Sketchfab format. And the 3D slideshow. I don’t see anything else I can read.

Hi
Have you tried any of your Lumepad 2 /Nubia Pad 3D or Lumepad 1 pictures on it.
It would be nice to know if that worked
All the best Roger

Yeah. So you can copy Lume Pad 2 photos onto it, and they open no problem in 3D (no need to set any settings) and easily look 2x or 3x better. In terms of taking photos on the RedMagic, it’s weird. The 3D depth effect is WAY better, but the resolution looks like 1080p, or just a low quality sensor. So in terms of the image being 3D, it looks amazing, but the overall colors and picture quality are lacking. Also, you can set the lock screen background to a 3D image and it’s 3D, though I’m unsure of why this is useful.

HOLY SHIT!!! This is the most INSANE thing ever. I just figured it out. There is a button on the side that turns anything into 3D!!! Also got the web browser working (I just needed to swipe left). So you can go to YouTube dot com (or any website) and click the 3D button and it’s instantly in 2D-to-3D. Nuts. This alone is worth buying it.

TURNS you mean “converts”, or actually supports native 3D?

Does this work Like LeiaTube, so any YouTube video can be converted in to 3D
Is the video player a product of Leia?
If it is may be Leia could give more control over depth and 3D focus

No. It’s not an app. It’s a button in the OS. So it just converts whatever is on the screen to 3D. Could just be a news article or whatever, but also works on the YouTube website.

Yes, it’s a 2D-to-3D conversion. I’d say I prefer it to the one on Lume Pad 2. The depth is very shallow (like I said maybe 1 or 2 inches into the screen) but it’s artifact free. Very clean image without glitches. I’m sure some people would like more depth but a clean image is more important to me.

This is what I mean. On the top right there is a 2D/3D button that is always over the screen, and when you press it in like 1 second anything on the screen is converted to 3D. I’m just on IGN dot com and the images in the news article becomes 3D.

the reason I bought the lume pad 2 was to play real racing 3 in 3d. I found out they have asphalt 9 yippie, dont care. and it doesnt do 2d to 3d conversion with games which is odd. Then I heard the nubia pad 2 would allow for it, in comes the red magic tablet and im thinking of getting one but if the 3d effect is poor whats the point. can you go into more depth on your opinions and features would be super grateful. I want one but dont have the money dont have 1900 cad kicking around for a lume pad 2 replacement. but in a few years maybe red magic 2 ill buy that and it will likely be 1080p per eye and have more of an effect in conversions as ai gets more advanced.

If anyone here has Kandao 3D camera (or other with wide separated lenses), than perhaps it is possible to print a face picture, make holes where eyes should be, and film the screen in 3D with working “eye”-tracking. This will allow those who hasn’t purchased (or received…) the tablet yet, to evaluate it using any 3D monitor.

No need for a complicated rig. I’ve used my Qoocam Ego to record my LP2 screen before, and all you need to do is hold the camera under your nose, where your mouth is, aligned with your eyes. This captures the 3D effect perfectly. The only downside is that the Qoocam Ego doesn’t have great video quality, so the resulting footage isn’t clear enough to tell if the new model has improved over the previous one.

Hi
Thank you for testing the device, would be great if there was away to use LeiaPix on the RedMagic.
I just would like to know if you can take good 3D pictures
Can it display 3D photos in both Landscape and portrait.
It will be on sale in the Uk soon.
I have the Lumepad 1 and Nubia Pad 3D, so would I be a good purchase for me using YouTube in 3D LeiaPix and taking 3D photos
Have you contacted Leia to see if they can give you control of the depth
All the best Roger

It would be a different story if you had the Spatiallabs Eyes camera but that has still not been released.

Well, any 2 identical cameras would do - for example two same mobile phones or two action cameras. But in this case there will be dual camera mount required.

Yes it’s alot of cash and I cannot keep spending, so I need to make a good decision

Yeah, it does landscape and portrait in 3D. I don’t see any Leia apps like LeiaPix and I also don’t see any RedMagic replacements for those (perhaps I can’t find them cause many of the store apps are in Chinese). The 3D photos are honestly pretty poor quality. It looks like 1080P resolution, but beyond that the colors and overall quality are sub-par. The 3D itself is amazing, but the picture is not great. I had similar issues with the QooCam in terms of quality.

Hi
Does the Lumepad 2 /Nubia Pad 3D take better pictures
I would like to know if anyone out there has a Nubia Pad 3D ii what they think of it

Yes. Lume Pad 2 has better pictures. The RedMagic is noticeably worse (not as vibrant colors, less resolution) but has a WAY better 3D effect. The RedMagic is still better than the QooCam though, so it’s not horrible, just not as good as Lume Pad 2.
